Feedback trend of "The Conjuring"

The movie "The Conjuring" is currently trending. Days after its premier, there were lots of positive feedback; however, as the film starts to catch the attention of people through incessant facebook posts and tweets, negative reactions and feedback begin to surface.

Reaction of the first batch of viewers - It's so scary, Annabelle is creepy. I might not be able to sleep tonight. Blah blah blah.

Reaction of the people who watched because the movie's first batch of viewers said it was scary through tweets, statuses, and friends' actual reaction (second batch of viewers) - It's not that scary. It was boring. Overrated movie.Blah blah blah.

I think this is the reason why.

The second batch of viewers were sensitized by the initial reaction of the first batch of viewers. They developed this certain kind of shield that rendered them prepared for what kind of thrill, suspense or horror that will come their way. This batch of viewers expected a certain level of horror that would have scared them, and through the process, they became immune to the elements of a horror movie presented to them, thus, they were disappointed because their expectations from the movie were not met.

Similar experience when you hear clanking noises in the kitchen. You expect something to be there, so you go to the kitchen and check it out. When you checked it out, you saw a rat. The presence of the rat does not scare you anymore, because you know that something really is there.

Of course, people have different preferences and takes on horror movies, so I would not be imposing my analysis on everyone. Then again, this is what I, emphasis on the "I", Jeanie, think.
